One of the things that can certainly ruin your holiday is a case of jet lag. Unfortunately, if you have a long-haul flight ahead of you then you just might find yourself jet lagged from the travel time. Follow these tips to prevent jet lag so you can reach your holiday destination feeling refreshed and energetic.
* Whether you’re a caffeine fiend or you just feel like celebrating your vacation with a shot or liquor or two, you should know that both caffeine and alcohol can contribute to jet lag. Stick to water or fresh fruit juice during the flight.
* Adjust to the time of your destination even before you arrive. For instance, you can start training your body to adapt to the new time zone a day or two before you leave.
* Take a nap on the plane. Getting enough rest on the plane is another sure-fire way to avoid feeling jet lagged. If you’ve always had difficulty sleeping on planes, you can try some ways to make resting easier. For example, make sure you are wearing comfortable clothing. If the hum of the plane’s engine is bothering you, you can bring along earplugs to shut out the noise.

A first-aid kit is one of the essential things that you need to bring when going on a holiday trip. Even though your destination will probably have plenty of drugstores or pharmacies where you can purchase basic first-aid supplies, it’s still cheaper and more convenient to have your own first-aid kit with you. If you are going to a third-world country or an adventure destination, there is also the chance that you might not be able to access first-aid supplies immediately.
Some of the things that you need to pack in your first-aid kit are aspirin or any other pain reliever, bandages, alcohol for sanitizing, antibiotic ointment, anti-diarrhea medication, sunscreen and insect repellant among others.
You don’t have to invest a lot in your first-aid kit. You can simply put the mentioned supplies in a sandwich bag that you can zip up and store in your bag. It’s important that you put your first-aid kit in your carry-on bag so it is easily within reach even during your plane ride. During sightseeing tours when you don’t want to weigh yourself down with a lot of baggage, you can bring your first-aid supplies in a fanny pack so you can leave your hands free.

Many people who go on holiday trips get so excited about their getaways that they often forget to attend to some basic concerns before they leave for their trip. Once you get on the plane and head to your holiday destination, the last thing you want is to spend your flight worrying about the things you needed to do but forgot to. Here are some last-minute reminders before going off on your holiday:
* Have your mail, newspaper and subscription delivered to a nearby relative or friend. You can also ask your neighbor to take care of it for you. A pile of mail in your front door is a clear sign that you are on vacation and might attract burglars.
* Photocopy your passport and other important travel documents. Put the copies in a separate bag from the original. During your trip, you can use the copies when traveling and leave behind the original documents safe in your hotel room.
* Secure your house before leaving. Make sure your home is protected from both intruders and accidents by making sure that all doors and windows are locked. Make sure that you switch off appliances as well and unplug them from electricity.
* To avoid experiencing lost luggage in the airport, mark your luggage with your name, home address and your destination.

If you’ve decided to go on family holiday by car then don’t make the mistake of thinking that it will be all laid-back fun and carefree hours on the road. A lot of parents decide to go on a road trip and end up getting stressed out by their impatient children kicking and crying in the back seat every half an hour. To make sure that your car trip goes as smoothly as possible, try these tips:
* Children get impatient very fast so it’s important to have something to keep them entertained. If your vehicle has a built-in DVD player then you’re all set. If you don’t, try to find a way to install a portable screen and DVD player so your kids can be entertained for the duration of the trip.
* Another trick you can try to keep your kids in their good behavior is to bribe them with gifts and snacks. Tell them that if they behave well for an entire hour, they will receive a new toy or a tasty snack at the end of that hour.
* Take frequent pit stops. Even if you are in a hurry to get to your destination, it’s important that you take frequent breaks so everyone in the car can get some air and stretch their legs. This will also make your children less impatient when they get back inside the car.

No matter where you are going for your holiday, a large part of your budget will undoubtedly go to food.
And if you are like most travelers then you probably want to save money on your meals and snacks so you
can spend more on the other aspects of your trip, such as sightseeing, souvenir shopping and such. Here are
some tips to keep you gastronomically satisfied without going broke.
A lot of hotels, resorts and bed-and-breakfasts include breakfast in the room accommodation so it’s best to
take full advantage of this by making sure you fill up during this meal. This will prevent you from getting
hunger pangs during the morning.
Of course, no holiday would be complete without splurging in a restaurant at least once. If you want some
fine dining experience, try to reserve it for lunch as much as possible. For most people, lunch is the most
important meal of the day where they really need to fill up so if you’re going to spend big bucks on food,
do so at lunch.
Another good idea to save money on food is to do some research about the popular local restaurants in the
area. If a restaurant has a lot of local customers, you can rest assured that the food is great and the prices
are reasonable.

Going on a holiday to a foreign place entails a lot of preparation. To make sure that you avoid any potential problems and other hassles during your trip, you need to plan your trip as meticulously as you can. Here are some planning tips to keep in mind.
* Do some research about the weather conditions in your place of destination. If you are going to a tropical place and you expect warm and bright days under the sun, make sure that it is not rainy season where you are going. Knowing about the weather will also give you a clue about what you type of clothes you should bring.
* Before you leave for your holiday, you might want to make sure that you are getting sufficient medical coverage with your insurance. This is particularly important if you are going to a place that poses potential risk or if you are planning to try extreme activities that could result to an injury. If you are not covered then you might want to look for another policy.
* If you are working with a travel agent, you might want to find out if there are any consequences should you decide to change your itinerary. Perhaps you might accidentally miss your flight or decide to stay for a couple of days more. Will there be any extra charges that you need to pay?

Women travelers, perhaps due to their physical vulnerability, often need to be more careful when they are traveling to a foreign country. Whether you are traveling alone, with a companion or with a group of people, it’s still important to keep in mind some important precautions to make sure you protect yourself at all times during your trip.
If you are renting a car to get around in your destination, be sure that you always lock car doors whether you are inside or outside the vehicle. It’s also important that you remove signs from the car that might tip off a criminal that you are a tourist who’s unfamiliar with the place. For instance, road maps and car rental stickers should not be in plain view.
Exploring a foreign country is also not the time to show off your expensive Fendi or Channel bag. Showing off such pricey purses can attract petty thieves who happen to know their designer goods. Instead, use a more drab purse if you have to or just a find a cute fanny pack that can go around your waste.
Your stay at your hotel will probably prove to be safe but this doesn’t mean that you can let your guard down already. For instance, try not to take a room on the main floor and avoid using stairs that are abandoned. You might also want to leave a radio or TV on in your room when you leave to give the illusion that your room is always occupied.

When it comes to male and female travelers, safety rules are generally the same. However, there are some special precautions that women must keep in mind when going to a foreign destination, especially when traveling alone.
Female travelers usually have carry-on bags aside from their luggage so be sure to take advantage of this by putting all your valuables in your carry-on bag. To be more safe, try to divide you money and put them in several locations. You can even put some in a pouch which you can slip into your bra.
Packing your earrings can be tricky when traveling. Because they are so small, they often tend to get lost. To keep your earrings and other small accessories in place, you can place them in those little lipstick carriers so they are secure.
Another mistake that female travelers must be sure to avoid is wearing clothes that are too provocative or attention-getting. Even if you are going to a place where it’s extremely hot, opt for cool modest clothing such as short-sleeved t-shirts, shorts and such. You might also want to read up on your destination’s customs to find out the acceptable mode of dressing for women. For instance, showing too much skin is still unacceptable for most countries in the Middle East.

Vaccinations for Travel and Other Health Tips
If you’re going to a foreign destination for the upcoming holiday then one of the things you need to ensure is your safety. Often, holiday makers are so caught up in the excitement of their vacation that they often tend to forget about their safety. To make sure that you don’t ruin your vacation with health woes and other safety issues, here are some useful guidelines to follow.
If you have any particular food allergies then you might want to list them down and find out what they are called in your destination. You don’t want to order an exotic-sounding dish from the menu only to find out later that it’s one of the foods you’re extremely allergic to.
Next, do some research as to what diseases are prevalent in your destination so you can take steps to protect yourself from them. This might mean taking the necessary vaccinations and carrying certain medications. Some countries will also require you to undergo certain vaccinations before you can enter.
Diarrhea is another common problem that a lot of travelers experience during their trip. To protect yourself, always avoid drinking tap water wherever you go. Instead, carry around bottle mineral water to make sure that you are drinking safely. Avoiding raw foods and meat is also a good way to protect yourself from diarrhea.

If you feel like it has been such a long time since you truly relaxed then a spa holiday is probably the best idea for you. A spa break will allow you to take a breather from your hectic life and allow you to enjoy a few days of rest and rejuvenation. Here are some tips to heed if this is your first time to go on a spa holiday.
The firs thing you need to do would be to look for a spa that truly meets your needs. For instance, do you want a spa that offers mostly beauty treatments? Or do you want one that focuses more on rejuvenating the body and spirit? Or, if you’re like most spa enthusiasts, do you want a spa that combines both?
Once you have a handful of options to choose from, gauge the quality of the facility by asking how many professionals there are on the staff. A good spa will have a lot of members on its staff—enough to provide each and every customer excellent service.
Just as you need to figure out what kind of treatments you want to receive, you should also try to determine what your goals are. Do you want to lose weight, tone your muscles, learn how to eat better or improve your skin complexion? These are some of the questions that you should answer before choosing a spa.
