Holiday travelers know that most trips come with their own problems–some of them can be avoided while some of them are beyond the traveler’s control. Many of these problems can occur as early as before your departure in the airport. Here are several common airport problems and how to fix them.

Flight delays are a common problem in airports. Usually, delays happen due to violent weather conditions or problems regarding air traffic. However, if you feel like the flight delay is unjustified, then you can calmly ask the airline agent to transfer you to the next flight. If you don’t want to use the same airline, you can also ask the agent to put you on a flight that belongs to another airline. There is a policy called Rule 240 which all airlines are required to follow. This law states that all airlines should grant passengers’ requests to be booked even to a competing airline.

The same holds true for canceled flights. Ideally, you wouldn’t have to approach agents since all passengers of the canceled flight are automatically transferred to the next available flight. However, if you want to book a flight from a competing airline then you can also ask for Rule 240 again.

Lost luggage is another common problem that many holiday travelers experience when vacationing. If you’ve discovered that your bags are missing, inform an airport employee right away. You will be asked to fill out a form that will ask you to describe your luggage and state its contents.
