Whether you are planning to go on a holiday with a group of people or just with a single travel companion, it’s very important that you watch out for your safety no matter where your destination is. The best way that you can make sure that your holiday is as safe as possible is by doing enough research before your trip.
One of the things that you should research about is the local customs of your destination. How are the locals dressing? How do they greet each other? How should one behave in public? Not knowing about the local customs can cost you an embarrassing situation at the very least.
If you will be going on a holiday for a long period of time (say, longer than a couple of weeks), make sure that you leave your whereabouts and itinerary not just to your loved ones back home but also the to the US Embassy.
If you are traveling to a country which is known for having some anti-American communities then it’s best to downplay your citizenship. This means refraining from wearing clothes or displaying any items that shows you’re an American. Even though you obviously cannot hide the fact that you are Caucasian, it’s better if people mistake you for a Canadian.

More and more people are now choosing to go on a cruise trip when it comes to planning their holidays. A cruise allows you to see a variety of exotic places while letting you enjoy lavish services at the same time. To make sure that your holiday cruise becomes a success, here are some reminders to keep in mind.
Choosing your destination is no doubt the first thing you do when planning a cruise. Do you want to cruise the sunny Caribbean waters or would you rather see the ice caps of Alaska? Even though the destination is the most important factor of a cruise, don’t forget to pay attention to the cruise ship as well since you will probably be spending more of your vacation on it. If you plan to do some heavy partying, does the ship have a night club and some entertainment? If you want to spend afternoons sunbathing with a book, does the ship have a warm and pleasant deck?
If you wish to save costs on your holiday cruise while getting the best cabin at the same time then you might want to book your trip as early as possible. Try to book your trip at least three months in advance to get the best cabin in the house for the best price.

Whether you’re staying in a foreign country for business or for pleasure, it’s important to remember some safety guidelines that you should apply throughout the duration of your trip. If you are going to a new destination for a holiday then you probably want to enjoy yourself without having to worry about your safety every minute of the day. Here are some simple and effortless tips that will ensure you have a hassle-free and laid-back vacation.
One of the easiest ways to run into trouble when visiting a new country is by looking like a tourist. Even though you’ll probably look like a tourist anyway (for example, you’re a Westerner going to Asia), you can still act as though you’re already familiar with the country even if it’s your first time visiting. How do you do this? Well, for one thing, avoid bringing a map everywhere you go and gazing around your surroundings looking like a clueless person.
Instead of pulling out wads of money every time you make a purchase, try to use travelers’ cheques or credit cards instead. You can take advantage of the insurance offered and you won’t have to increase your risk by putting your money on display.

If you have decided to go on a camping holiday with some friends and family then there it’s best to remember some safety tips so you can make sure that your camping trip goes off without a hitch. Whether this is your first time to try “roughing it” or you consider yourself a veteran camper, be sure to keep these tips in mind.
Traveling through the woods when it’s dark can be dangerous. Aside from the fact that you are less likely to see where you’re going and may easily trip and fall, you might also become prey to forest creatures who hunt by night. Because of this, it’s best to set up your camp before it gets dark.
Once you’ve found an ideal clearing for making camp, be sure to double-check the surroundings to make sure that it’s an ideal camping site. Is the land stably flat or is there a possibility that it may erode when it rains? Is the ground clear of objects that might puncture your tent such as broken class, sharp stones, etc.? Are there other natural hazards around such as poison ivy, ant beds or even bee hives? Once you’ve confirmed that you selected a land that’s free from all hazards then you may begin setting up camp.
When starting a camp fire, be sure that you do so in an area that has a safe distance from your tent and other camping gear. You don’t want to accidentally ignite your own tent with carelessness.

Camping is a very enjoyable activity that anyone should try at least once in their lives. Whether you are looking to spend quality time with your family, have some fun with your group of friends, an intimate time with your special someone or just commune with nature by yourself, roughing it is always a good idea. To make sure your camping trip goes off without a hitch, here are some suggestions.
One of the things that can really dampen your camping spirit—quite literally—is rainfall. Even though a few raindrops can be refreshing, there’s nothing fun about walking in mud or having all your belongings wet. To control the situation, bring a tarp that you can hang above your tent in case of rain. Be sure to direct the tarp in such a way that it slopes toward the trees so the rainwater stays away from your tent. Worried about getting wet while sleeping? Be sure to bring air mats that you can sleep on.
Another problem that you might run across when camping is a wildlife animal that wanders into your site. To avoid this, be sure to store all your food inside a sealed cooler. Keep your trash bag far from the campsite as well by hanging it one of the trees.

Camping is something that all travel enthusiasts should try at least once in their lives, not just to see how they’ll be able to survive “roughing it” but also so they can commune with nature and rejuvenate their hectic lifestyles. Here are some suggestions to make sure that your camping trip goes as smoothly as possible.
Before you head to your camping site, be sure to purchase an air mat in your nearest store. These inflatable rubber mats are usually used in the water but they are also highly recommended for sleeping purposes during camping. Purchase one air mat per person. It usually take about 20 minutes to inflate the mat but this time will surely be worth it once you spend hours of peaceful sleep in your campsite. Even though you have thick blankets and sleeping bags with you, chances are you will still toss and turn from the hard ground, twigs and pebbles beneath you.
If you are hesitant about camping because you don’t want to eat marshmallows and hotdogs for days then you’ll be glad to know that you won’t have to. In fact, you can cook whatever you want as long as you have the right cooking items. Be sure to bring a mini portable charcoal grill (with some charcoal of course), a small pot and pan, some tin foil and some matches or lighters. The grill usually comes with a grate, giving you more cooking options. You can now make toast, bagels or eggs for breakfast, chicken and hamburgers for lunch and even macaroni and cheese for dinner.

Arriving at your destination is one of the most crucial parts of your trip. You probably don’t notice it but it’s a time when you are at most risk. Not only are you unable to betray the fact that you are a tourist but you also have all your valuable belongings with you, such as your money, jewelry, credit cards and travel documents. To make sure that your holiday does not start with a tragic event, here are some tips to keep in mind.
Before you even leave for the airport to fly to your destination, go online and familiarize yourself with the airport where you be landing. Better yet, print out the layout and study it on the plane. This will help you get a sense of where everything is so you won’t look like a lost puppy upon your arrival. However, never take out the map once you get to the airport as this will only show how clueless you are.
Unless you’ve been to your holiday destination a dozen times before, it might be a safer choice to use the hotel’s airport pickup or the airline limousine to travel to your hotel. However, if you’d rather take a cab instead, make sure that you get into the taxi queue.
Pulling out bills of money from your pocket in the airport can be risky so make sure that you have changed your money to the local currency even before leaving your country. Do not put all of your money in the same place. For instance, keep a little amount in your pocket for the predictable expenses such as paying the cab, etc. However, stash the rest on a hidden pouch under your clothes or any other protected area.

One of the biggest travel expenses when it comes to going on a holiday is accommodation. Unfortunately, there are many holiday makers who book reservations in hotels and resorts only to end up with limited spaces and very few facilities at their disposal. If you are truly looking for a home away from home then skip the hotel on your next family holiday and go for a rental instead. Vacation rentals are very popular nowadays because they are truly ideal for vacationing families—children get their own rooms, there is usually more than one bathroom, there’s a functional kitchen and the family can have other comforts such as a TV, a barbecue grill and such. Here are some tips when looking for a vacation rental.
Don’t base your choice on the nice and luxurious rentals that you see on brochures. As much as possible, make direct bookings with a property management company or the owners of the properties themselves. Thanks to the Internet, there are now many online resources that you can use to look for the ideal vacation rental. Narrow down your search by selecting the destination of your next holiday. Once you have a list of possible choices, weed out the others by doing research about the location of each property. Are they near the local attractions? Are there any restaurants nearby or at least stores where you can buy food?
Once you’ve made the decision, try to talk to the manager by phone instead of by email. This will help you get a better sense of what kind of person you are dealing with. Before you sign any agreement, make sure that you read the fine print and review all the terms of the transaction.

If you are planning to go on a vacation with your kids in tow then there will be a lot of preparation involved. Some parents experience a lot of stress when traveling with their children, only because they did not plan the trip well. Here are some tips to make sure that your holiday with your children goes smoothly.
Before you decide on a destination, try to determine the objective of the trip. Are you going on a holiday to have fun, to learn new things, to try new adventures? Your goal should give you a good idea about where to go for your holiday. When planning your itinerary, do not pack too many activities into one day as this will tire your children. Three to four activities in a day is enough for most kids. You don’t want to get stuck with cranky and bawling kids because they simply want to rest.
Children have short attention spans so variety is always good when it comes to planning activities. If you insist on visiting the museum or watching a educational presentation for the entire afternoon, your children will surely get impatient and will start looking for other things to do.
It’s always important that you make sure the places you visit are child-friendly. For instance, if you are visiting a modern art museum then your four-year-old is not likely to appreciate the materials.
Don’t forget to include yummy meals and snacks in your day’s itinerary. Kids love to eat and since it’s a holiday, let them indulge a little bit on their favorite treats.

If you are planning to go on a holiday with your little kids then you are probably worried if you have a long plane ride ahead. Kids tend to get bored easily when sitting for hours in a confined space. Sure, they might get fascinated with the view and the fact that they are on a plane at first, but after an hour or so, they will start looking for something to amuse them. If you want to make sure that your kids stay on their best behavior throughout the entire flight, you have to be ready with a bag of tricks. So what are the things that your mysterious bag will contain?
Start off with pads of white and unlined paper. Make sure that it’s the kind of paper that your kids can draw on and can be used to make origami shapes. Next, purchase a big set of watercolor pencils from Crayola. The advantage of these pencils is that they don’t easily melt like crayons. All you have to do is dip these pencils in water and you easily transform them to face paint. So if your kids get bored of drawing on paper, they can start using their faces as canvas. Don’t worry–the paint can easily be removed with baby wipes or water. Who knows, you might even attract the attention of other bored little kids on the flight and their parents will surely be grateful.
These are only a couple of suggestions for your upcoming holiday with the kids. Feel free to add other toys and items that your children will love. Remember: it’s best to add items that are brand new as these will spark the kids’ curiosity and hold their interest for several hours.
