Driving Tips for A Holiday Road Trip
If you are planning on going on a road trip for the holiday then you’re in for a lot of fun. If you are the designated driver for the trip then the fun also comes with plenty of responsibility. To make sure that you and your passengers get to your destination in one piece, be sure to keep these reminders in mind.
“Don’t drink and drive” is a common phrase that you will see and hear everywhere but it’s still surprising how many dim-witted drivers are breaking this rule. Even if you are certain that one or two beers will not even get you close to being tipsy, it can make you drowsy and can slow down your reflexes. Instead, get enough hours of sleep and enjoy a balanced breakfast before you go.
Before planning your trip, it’s also a good idea to get the latest news updates on the weather and traffic. Throughout the trip, be sure to turn on the AM radio from time to time so you can stay updated. Be sure that you also have a map with you. Even though you know the road like the back of your hand, you might find yourself needing to make detours in case of traffic or bad weather.
If you will be using a rented car, make sure that you are familiar with the vehicle even before you hit the road. Know how to work the hazard lights, how accurate are the breaks, etc.
When driving on a road trip, maintain your peace of mind by storing all your bags in the trunk of the car. Keep valuables out of sight such as electronics, jewelry and such.
