Driving Tips for A Holiday Road Trip

If you are planning on going on a road trip for the holiday then you’re in for a lot of fun. If you are the designated driver for the trip then the fun also comes with plenty of responsibility. To make sure that you and your passengers get to your destination in one piece, be sure to keep these reminders in mind.
“Don’t drink and drive” is a common phrase that you will see and hear everywhere but it’s still surprising how many dim-witted drivers are breaking this rule. Even if you are certain that one or two beers will not even get you close to being tipsy, it can make you drowsy and can slow down your reflexes. Instead, get enough hours of sleep and enjoy a balanced breakfast before you go.
Before planning your trip, it’s also a good idea to get the latest news updates on the weather and traffic. Throughout the trip, be sure to turn on the AM radio from time to time so you can stay updated. Be sure that you also have a map with you. Even though you know the road like the back of your hand, you might find yourself needing to make detours in case of traffic or bad weather.
If you will be using a rented car, make sure that you are familiar with the vehicle even before you hit the road. Know how to work the hazard lights, how accurate are the breaks, etc.
When driving on a road trip, maintain your peace of mind by storing all your bags in the trunk of the car. Keep valuables out of sight such as electronics, jewelry and such.

Airport Tips for Holiday Travelers

If you are going on a vacation this holiday then there are several airport guidelines that you might want to keep in mind to make sure that you kick off your trip on a high note. The first and perhaps most important rule in using airports is to arrive at least two hours before the departure of your flight. Most holiday travelers find that arriving at the airport early can greatly reduce most of the stress associated with traveling. Getting to the airport will give you plenty of time to go through security checkpoints, even if there are very long lines. After you go through security, you can do some last-minute shopping for items that you might have forgotten or you need for your trip. You can also enjoy a nice meal or snack that will fill you up before your flight.

If your baggage is exceptionally heavy or if the airport is extremely crowded, you might also want to use the baggage check service at the airport curbside. This will save you the stress of having to jostle through the crowds while carrying multiple bags.

If you are a frequent flier, you might also want to consider joining an airport club. Members of airport clubs are allowed to wait for their flights in exclusive waiting lounges where you can also enjoy free refreshments. Needless to say, this is much more comfortable than waiting in a crowded airport lobby.

Even when you feel that things are going wrong, it doesn’t pay to let your temper get the best of you when speaking to airport employees. Be sure to ask as nicely and as calmly as possible and you will almost always get what you need.

Traveling Items That You Don’t Really Need

If you are like most travelers then you are probably bothered by packing problems whenever you go on a trip. In trying to decide what to bring, you probably end up with most of your belongings laid out in your bed and trying to find a way to fit them all in you suitcases.

Even though leaving something behind can be a scary possibility when you are traveling to a new destination, there are actually things that you can afford to leave behind. If you insist on carrying everything you own, not only will you pay extra dollars at the airport but you will also have one difficult time in carrying your bags around. Read on for some advice.

Don’t pack your entire bathroom and makeup table. Unless you are vacationing in a deserted island that’s fit for Survivor contestants, chances are the hotel or resort you will be staying at will have the basic toiletries. Don’t weigh down your bags with huge bottles of shampoos, conditioners, three bars of soap and thick towels.

For your makeup, try to put everything in a compact zip-up bag that won’t take much room in your suitcase.

People go on vacations to relax and enjoy, not to audition as the next big red carpet celebrity. Leave home the fancy jewelry at home. Tourists are often easy prey for local muggers so it’s best to try and not attract attention.

Guide books are handy materials that can really be helpful when you are going on a trip. But if you are bringing six volumes of guidebooks in your bag, then you have a problem. Instead, pick one good guidebook to bring along with you and leave the rest home.

When you do pack, be sure not to forget the essentials like a first-aid kit, a jacket to protect you from the cold, your travel documents and such. If you have allergies or a particular medical condition, be sure to bring along your medication along with you. Don’t expect the drug stores in your destination to carry the items you need.
